Weekly Preview: January 8-14, 2012

Week: January 8-14, 2012
This is a big week for The Wings. Four games in total with two games against divisional rivals Chicago Blackhawks. Big wins this week could start to distance the Wings from the rest of their division.

Game 1: Chicago Blackhawks (@ Home)
Chicago is on a bit of a slide losing 3 in a row. As of the time of writing Chicago sits a top the Central Division (this can change with a Detroit win over Toronto or a St. Louis win over Colorado tonight) and the Red Wings will look to start to distance themselves from the rest of the division.
Despite Jimmy Howard being slated to get the start against Toronto tonight, a big game such as this could see Howard starting in back-to-back games to give The Wings their best shot.

Game 2: New York Islanders (@ Home)
The Islanders have been a mediocre 5-5-0 in their last 10 games and sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Look for Ty Conklin to get the start against the Islanders (especially if Howard gets back-to-back starts against Toronto and Chicago). The Islanders have been having a lot of injury troubles and should be starting a skeleton squad against The Wings.

Game 3: @ Phoenix Coyotes
Phoenix has also been on a bit of a slide lately going 3-5-2 and are sitting 11th in the Western Conference. Ty Conklin could get the start tonight if The Red Wings look to rest Howard for the Blackhawks on Saturday. Though the day off in between games could be enough rest for Howard.

Game 4: @ Chicago
This is a big game to close out the week and The Red Wings will be looking to fire on all cylinders for this match-up. Coming in to this week Chicago is starting to slide so they will be looking to pick it up and stay/climb back a top the Central Division. This could easily be a game of the week.
***
Detroit has a chance to reclaim their spot a top the Central Division and even the Western Conference this week. Two games against Blackhawks make this week a week to watch.

*Edit*I realized I reversed the home and away games this week
